Saving Kogawa House
This fall we have a special anniversary. Some of you know that the campaign to purchase the Kogawa House started in 2003, but it is in Fall 2005, fifteen years ago, when we learned that the house was under threat of demolition and the Save Kogawa House Committee’s campaign went into full swing.
With media attention, donations, support from around the world, and an unprecedented moratorium on demolition issued by the City of Vancouver, the miracle happened. Fortunately, a then-anonymous donor stepped forward and the TLC, The Land Conservancy of BC, purchased the house. The story of the grassroots effort to save and preserve what is now Historic Joy Kogawa House can be an inspiration for others involved in similar causes.
