Apply for a Writing Residency at Historic Joy Kogawa House

Note: As of May 2026, we are currently pausing submissions for residencies as we go through our accessibility update, and we will reopen the intake in the coming months.

Residencies typically run from 4 days to 3 weeks, with occasional consideration for month-long or multi-month residencies in special cases.

How to Apply

To submit a proposal for consideration, please email info@kogawahouse.com with the following materials:

1. Statement of Interest (1–2 pages max)

Tell us:

  • About yourself

  • What work you intend to create or develop during the residency

  • Why this is a critical stage in your process

  • Why Historic Joy Kogawa House is the right fit for your work

2. Community Offering (1 page max)

Historic Joy Kogawa House values giving back to the community of residents, writers, and artists who support the house. While not all offerings are programmed, we welcome ideas such as:

  • Workshops

  • Readings

  • Studio visits or consultations

  • Community gatherings

3. Curriculum Vitae

We encourage artists at all stages of their careers to apply—emerging, mid-career, and senior. Your CV helps us understand your history and body of work, whether consistent in one genre or branching into new ones.

4. Bio and Headshot

Please include a short bio and a recent headshot.
