Renite Manisha Gosal
Writer-in-residence at Historic Joy Kogawa House in August 2024.
Renite Manisha Gosal is a writer and spoken-word poet based in Vancouver, who seeks to share the healing value of writing with the global youth community. Exploring the margins between Canadian, British, and Indian identities Renite’s work uncovers their shared colonial underpinnings, interconnections, and contradictions.
Renite’s work seeks to encourage people to empower themselves over injustice by writing and blending mediums. She fluidly navigates written poetry, spoken-poetry, and prose to capture the great and terrible wonders of life by exploring belonging and non-belonging, acknowledging grief and happiness, mindful acceptance, and resilience. In doing so, Renite builds connection and community for people experiencing disconnect and displacement.
Informed by her work experience in youth mental health and substance use, Renite intends to share the healing power of writing with her generation and the next; particularly to BIPOC youth who are disproportionately susceptible to adverse early childhood experiences.
Renite Manisha Gosal was our online writer in residence, participating in our Tuesday writing group hosted online and in person Historic Joy Kogawa House. (To join this free ongoing event please email info@kogawahouse.com.)
