Nejime Shōichi
Nejime Shōichi is a Japanese poet hosted at Historic Joy Kogawa House in partnership with Tasai Artists’ Collective. Nejime collaborated in Vancouver with Japanese poet Soramaru Takayama as part of the Japanese Poets North of the 49th (JPN North of 49) project.
In 1989, he won the Naoki Prize for his poetry collection Kōenji Junjō Shōtengai (高円寺純情商店街, lit. Kōenji Purehearted Shopping District).
In 1997, Nejime Shōichi became the first champion of “Poetry Boxing.” In 2001, he led the NHK (Japanese National Radio) panel discussion “Words of Power, Poems of Power.”
