A workshop led by Michael Kluckner, author/illustrator of Toshiko (Midtown Press, 2015), on plotting and staging graphic novels. Participants are welcome to bring their own works, in progress or otherwise, to discuss everything from illustration styles to production techniques and narrative voices. The workshop will begin with some illustrated examples from Toshiko of plot devices and “cinematic” panels that helped to tell that complex story.

Michael Kluckner’s illustrated books include memoirs on sheep farming, a sketchbook of Canada’s cultural landscapes, and detailed histories of Vancouver, Victoria, and Toronto. Toshiko, published in English and French in 2015, is his first graphic novel. He lives in Vancouver and volunteers as president of the Vancouver Historical Society.
